Thank you for helping Shopify grow to 1 million merchants

Last week, we celebrated a new milestone that we reached together. One million merchants now use Shopify to run their businesses, many of whom rely on your apps and services for growth. Together, we've built a thriving economy, and I'm excited to share that we're able to measure our collective impact.

Over the last few months, we have teamed up with Deloitte to produce a report on the global economic impact of Shopify as it relates to our corporate operations, merchants, partners, and developers. The report reveals incredible growth in our ecosystem. In 2018, our partners around the world generated nearly $1.7 US billion in estimated sales.

A big part of this economic growth comes from our shared focus of supporting merchants globally. Shopify merchants referred by partners who are based in another country than their own generated an additional $5.4 US billion in sales from their Shopify stores.

Today, more than 22,000 partners across 145 countries help entrepreneurs worldwide strive for independence.

Since 2016, the collective economic activity of our merchants' operations—$183 US billion—is in the range of the national GDP of many countries. We are incredibly grateful that you continue to put your trust in us to build the platform upon which you are building your own businesses.
